Care Homes Residents enjoying time together

Reside Care Homes specialise in supporting people who have some confusion or dementia.

Cheryl Hadland opened the first Reside Care Home at 14 Stour Road in Christchurch in March 2007.

She was inspired to make some provision for people with dementia largely because her own step-father is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and she realised that there was very little provision for families suffering in this way and she felt she could do something to help.

14 Stour Road was a care home decades ago, then became a boarding school for Wessex Autistic, before Cheryl and her brother Duncan Hadland (an architect) completely gutted the building in October 2006.  Cheryl invested £300,000 in re-fitting the building and re-arranging the layout to provide 20 attractive single rooms, all with en-suite facilities, plus comfortable communal areas and staff facilities. Southwood Lodge care home is equally as equiped and welcoming and is celebrating its first birthday this year following a thorough refurbishment and redecoration.

All the meals are cooked freshly on site by a chef and her assistants, to suit each individual residents needs and preferences.   A range of interesting and appropriate activities are arranged everyday for the residents, activities include cooking, gardening, playing games and “remembering the past”.

Family and visitors are welcomed at any time of day and night, and to be part of the Reside community, suggestions are welcomed, criticisms taken on board, participation is encouraged.

Staff are the single most important aspect of care home life, and they have been chosen carefully for their caring and professional attitudes and skills.  All staff are police checked before they start at the home.  A considerable amount of on-going training and development activities are provided and staff retention is very high at over 90% of staff being retained each year.

Reside Care Homes currently operates two homes in Dorset (Christchurch and Southbourne) and expects to open further care homes accross Dorset, Hampshire and Somerset in due course.
